Brandon Lane Phillips and Jeremy Miller were presented with the prestigious Baby Hearts Press People’s Choice Award on Thursday, April 16, 2020 for Best Book for the Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Community. This unlikely duo met as children and went on to be significant in one another's life over the years spawning this special book about the power of perseverance in spite of medical and personal problems and how love and friendship can help mitigate even seemingly insurmountable odds.Their book When I Wished Upon a Star: From Broken Homes to Mended Hearts really touched the members of the CHD Community who voted for the book.
Families affected by CHDs, nurses and doctors working with patients with CHDs and Heart Warriors like Brandon Lane Phillips, MD were among those who voted for the book.
About the Winners

Brandon Lane Phillips, MD is a pediatric cardiologist in Louisiana. Dr. Phillips was born with a congenital heart defect and knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to work in cardiology like the doctors who cared for him. Jeremy James Miller is an American actor and chef. He is best known for is portrayal of Ben Seaver on the television show Growing Pains. Jeremy struggled with alcoholism but now mentors others in overcoming addiction, as well as continuing to pursue his passions for acting and cooking.

The People’s Choice Award is the first award to be given out by the publishing company to recognize other literary works that help others to understand more about congenital heart defects (CHDs) and how having a CHD can affect one’s life.
